#126: A New Focus

REMEMBER ME?
I haven’t sent this email out since *blows dust off of computer* August. Wow. For many of you, this is the first time you’ve ever even heard from me. You signed up for weekly emails and you got nothing. I’m sorry. What can I say other than 2018 really got away from me,
Honestly, I was beginning to get really burned out this fall and I needed to spend less time on the computer and my phone. So these emails didn’t get made. Going forward (2019!) I’m getting honest with myself and planning to send these once a month, and I’ve updated the copy on the site and sign-up pages to reflect that. But enough with the housekeeping.
I hope your year ended strong! And that you’re gearing up—and resting up—for 2019. I have a good feeling about 2019. Why? Well, I have a few big projects I’m working on and a new approach to doing fewer things, but doing them better. A strategy of focus I guess you could say. Hence the new monthly newsletters sends.
If you follow my personal Instagram, you’ve probably seen me tease a photo book I’m working on as well. It’s turning into more of a one-off newspaper, but I’m excited to share that soon. It’s called Swim Call, and it’s a travelogue of my favorite swimming spots in Italy, Greece, The Catskills and other locales. I’ll share some info later about how to get a copy if you want one.
That will be my first project of 2019. I tend to prefer to look forward instead of meditating on the past (at least I tell myself this), but when I look back on 2018, I feel proud. I landed my first bylines in The New York Times and Fast Company, made a documentary film, brewed my first batch of beer, finally got to Portugal, kept running and stayed healthy, and, well, grew even more madly in love with my wife.
We’ll see how 2019 shakes out, but I’m wishing you the best in the New Year. Thanks for bearing with me as I keep this little media empire alive for a sixth year. It's been fun having you along for the ride.
Yours etc.
John Peabody
