By now, you've heard about the amazing images that people are creating with AI image-creation tools like Dall-E and Midjourney.
As a content creator, I'm fascinated and a bit scared. So I decided to give myself a little creative brief to try them out: Create a series of images to be used in a fake watch campaign. Since watch ads often play on visual tropes, it seemed like a fun brief for an AI to interpret. The output needed to include lifestyle assets, caseback close-ups and still-life product images, just like a real watch campaign.
These AI tools create images with simple prompts. So I started by prompting Dall-E with, "rolex wrist shot" and eventually moved on to "luxury watch falling into water" to achieve one of the more cliché watch ad photos out there (You know it, you've seen it many times before).
The watches below obviously lack detail—a critical part of creating watch ads—but I'm floored with how quickly Dall-E can create the images, and how closely they resemble actual watch photos we see every day on Instagram and social media. Content creators take note.
See below for the prompts and the results.
Prompt: “luxury watch falling in water”
Prompt: “tag heuer wrist shot with wool sweater and porsche”
Prompt: “Photos of watches on travertine marble”
Prompt: “watch caseback closeup”
Prompt: “rolex wrist shot with wool sweater and porsche”
Prompt: “luxury watch suspended in air with velvet backdrop”
See you at the Wind Up Watch Fair.
