The Hand & Eye will be on vacation swimming under Mount Etna for the rest of August and will return in full force in September.
REAL TALK
If you’re like me, the big promises of the internet still feel unfulfilled, and at time utterly abandoned. I mean that for all the hopes of ushering in a new era of connection and togetherness, it looks more and more like the internet is actually being used to drive us apart.
One bright spot in this gloomy outlook on technology (sorry!) is Olmo, a new app that connects you with real people to help figure out some of your real career/life/work challenges like how to find a job, how to start a company, how to ask for a raise, how to achieve work/life balance, etc.
I’ve found it insanely helpful. I won’t go into too much detail, but thanks to Olmo I’ve been communicating with someone about pressure testing an idea of mine. This is a person it would have been very hard to find through my network, or to connect with on LinkedIn, and nearly impossible to actually cultivate a valuable discussion with.
I had downloaded Olmo and was a little reluctant to try and make an ask (It has a chat interface so users in search of help make a request and Olmo responds to help connect them with another real human). It felt a little like throwing a question into a void at first, but I went for it and Olmo came back with an offer to introduce me to an expert who sounded like a good fit. (Sorry this is so vague, someday maybe I’ll add more detail).
Anyway! Fast forward a week, and I’ve had numerous deep, very valuable exchanges with this expert that have helped me rethink my approach to this project.
I realize this endorsement lacks a lot of specificity, but if you’ve found yourself needing some career-related advice, and connecting people with on LinkedIn or other social networks doesn’t seem to be resulting in anything meaningful, I highly recommend giving Olmo a try, especially as it’s so young and there's a bit of excitement about what great things could come from this new service.
